Weekend Review 1/12
Another fantastic weekend of football for Salthill Devon F.C.! Our teams delivered some incredible performances, showing great skill, teamwork, and determination across all age groups. Let’s dive into some of the highlights:
U17 Boys Progress to SFAI Cup Last 32 with Thrilling 5-3 Victory!
Under 17 boys advanced to the Last 32 of the SFAI Cup in a highly competitive match v Moyne Villa earlier today. The team showed some real grit coming from behind twice to win the game 5-3. Goals from Tiernan Clery, Zac Mulkerrins, Owen McDonnell, Ben Fahy and Darragh Keane on the day.
U14 Girls Teams Excel with Double Victory Weekend!
Great few days for the U14 girls teams and both matches in fairly atrocious conditions but they dug it out and came away with the points. Division 2 team were playing Corrib Rangers on Sunday and won 3-0 – Goals by Elise Kelly, Saoirse Moranvil Kelly and Aoife Walsh.
Premier Division team on Wednesday played really well against one of the top teams in the league (super organised) and prevailed 4-1. Contributions from the whole squad. Goals from Sarah O’Connell, Erin McCartan and Saoirse Ginty (2). Great week for girls ⚽
Galway Town U12 Teams Shine with Double Wins in EDP Debut!
Two big wins for the Galway Town teams today, with their first outing in EDP. Congrats to Jamie Holland, Sean Mulkerrins, John Behan & Jack Conway representing Salthill Devon with great distinction!
U16B Girls Shine in 4-1 Victory Over League Leaders East Galway United!
U16B girls won 4-1 earlier in Drom, against the league leaders East Galway United. Goals from Emma Connelly, Jane Carroll and Saoirse Ginty (2). A really strong performance in horrible conditions, where the girls had to dig in and get the three points. The win takes them top of the table!
U15 Division 4 Boys Claim Thrilling 5-3 Victory Over Loughrea!
Another tightly contested affair unfolded this weekend as our U15 Division 4 squad faced off against a strong Loughrea side. The match was a brilliant display of resilience, teamwork, and determination from both teams.
After a cagey first half, the sides went into the break level at 1-1. Early in the second half, Salthill Devon found another gear, racing into a 3-1 lead with quick, confident play. However, Loughrea proved to be serious contenders, mounting an impressive comeback to bring it back to 3-3 — and that was against the breeze.
In response, the lads showed great composure and unity. A reshuffle in positions and a renewed burst of energy helped tip the momentum back in our favour. The boys edged in a fourth goal before sealing the win with a fifth, rounding out a hard-fought 5-3 victory.
Goalscorers:
⚽️ Sebi Todosi (2)
⚽️ Tom Shox (2)
⚽️ Eoin Connellan (1)
While the goals were crucial, it was ultimately the entire squad that made the difference — digging deep, supporting each other, and staying focused when it mattered most.
These are the kinds of games that show the magic of competitive football — evenly matched teams, momentum swinging back and forth, and everything in the melting pot until the final whistle.
Well done to all involved! Crucially Tuam turned west over 2-0. Game on with three games left!
U14B Boys Secure Gritty 1-0 Victory Over Mervue!
The Boys U14B (Div 2) made it 3 wins from 3 for all our U14 boys teams across the competitions this weekend.
We’ve placed a big emphasis on tightening up at the back and keeping our goals conceded to a minimum. That can sometimes mean a different type of game – less glamour, fewer goals – but when you come away with a 1-0 win over Mervue, that’s a solid day’s work in anyone’s book.
You often learn more from a gritty 1-0 than from a high-scoring match where you concede a few. It was a good outing today, and a well-taken goal by Cian Parker sealed the three points.
Big Connacht Cup game at home in two weeks vs Kiltullagh – can’t wait!
