Salthill Devon History
Salthill Devon Football Club, founded in 1947 as the Salthill Crusaders, became Salthill Athletic in 1950 and finally Salthill Devon Football Club in 1977. Today it is a nationally-recognised brand, with a reputation as one of the most progressive, organised and successful clubs in the country.
Salthill Devon Football Club, play their home games in the first-class soccer facility at Drom Soccer Park, Drom East, Rahoon, Galway. Drom Soccer Park facilities include 4 sand based grass pitches, 4 synthetic surfaces cages, a full size, UEFA standard international size 5G p0laying pitch
The club has continued to grow each year since 1977, with over 1,000 members and fields over 30 competitive teams in competitions at local and national level. Age groups range from the Nippers Academy to League of Ireland with members coming from all over Galway and beyond.
Additionally Salthill Devon promotes the hugely successful Galway Cup International Tournament and the ever popular ‘Salthill Fives’
Several players of the club have come through the ranks and into the first team playing at the highest level playing League of Ireland – these include Daryl Horgan, Colin Hawkins, Colm Horgan, Vinny Flaherty, and John Russell. In addition several players (boys and girls) from Salthill Devon Football Club have represented the Republic of Ireland at various school boy levels as well as Youths, Under 21 levels and Senior – most notably Dora Gorman who captained the Republic of Ireland at the Under 17 World Cup and Daryl Horgan who is playing Senior for the Republic of Ireland.
The Club has enjoyed considerable success on the playing field, reaching and winning National Finals at all levels, and regularly making it into the last eight of the national competitions. Salthill Devon teams frequently take the honours at the juvenile age groups in the Galway and District League and have enjoyed considerable success in Connacht Cup competitions.
Salthill Devon Football Club works diligently to provide the club, its supporters and the local community with a top class facility, quality coaches and teams that offer players the opportunity to progress further in their footballing careers. The club motto “Cairdeas Tré Spórt’ encapsulates for us the essence of what we are about, namely, the development of lasting friendships through sporting participation.
