Bank Holiday Weekend – Busy Busy for Salthill Devon
The weekend got underway with the 1st team grinding out a victory in the Premier League over a very game Galway Hibernians side, with winning goals coming in ‘time added on’ from Tommy McKeown and Colin Kelly. They remain unbeaten at the top of the table. Their next game is away to Loughrea in the Michael Byrne Cup on Saturday 8th.
Having lost badly to Athenry in their last game, the under-12 C lads showed their worth today against the same opponents, turning the tables, controlling the game throughout, and finishing with a 3-1 win.
There was a great performance from the under-12Bs today away to a strong Merlin Woods team. After hitting the post twice in the first half, they fell behind twice, but showed brilliant character and got the decisive goals in the final quarter to win it 4-2. Goals from Ruairí Monaghan, Liam O’Donnell, and a worldie from Daniel O’Halloran that put us 3-2 up.
Well done to our U12 Premier team who traveled to Clonmel today in the last 32 of the Irish Cup. Beaten by an extremely strong Clonmel team 2-0. But, as you can see from the photo, it didn’t dampen their spirits.
An enjoyable afternoon for the Under 10 Blues squad against KFC in Drom. They have had a few tough games this year but kept working hard at training and progressing week by week. Some important cameos from the Under 9 squad – the future is bright, the future is Blue.
Finn Hevican from our U12 team played for the Galway Town White team vs. the Midlands. Galway Town won 4-2, while Evan Lydon played for the Galway Town Maroon team vs. the Midlands. Galway Town won 2-1 with Evan grabbing the winner! Great display by both teams.
U16 girls advanced to the last 16 in the Irish Cup after a 3-2 win over Listowel with goals from Grace Coyle, Anna Fiorentini, and Caoimhe Lydon.
And one from the archives! The year was 1988, and the event was a Galway & District League ‘Player of the Year’ awards reception in the legendary Banba Hotel – the Salthill Devon HQ at the time, where there was always a warm welcome for the Silke family.
